This presents a sample of the native orchids which occur naturally south of latitude 27 degress south. This line passes close to Brisbane on the east coast of Australia and Kalbarri on the west. It also covers the major capital cities and population centres.

Inside 268 species are described to help dedicated orchid enthusiast and the casual bushwalker to identify many of the commoner, and some of the special, orchids in the field. A straightforward description is given for each, detailing its overall distribution, flowering period and habitat together with a full-colour photograph.
